Homebrewing is a long-standing practice in tabletop role-playing games (TTRPG) like Dungeons & Dragons. It is necessary to situate homebrewing within broader formations of white geek masculinity and explore how homebrew practices serve as both participatory critique and hegemonic consolidation of larger social practices in TTRPG culture. Through an analysis of homebrewing in the magazines Dungeons and Dragon, online Reddit communities, and in reception of Aabria Iyengar's Dimension 20 seasons, it is possible to create a taxonomy of homebrewing across TTRPG culture.
