Transformative Works and Cultures Welcomes New Editors

Transformative Works and Cultures (TWC) is pleased to announce several changes to its editorial team. Taylore Nicole Woodhouse, who has previously served as Assistant Editor, will be moving into the co-editor role alongside continuing co-editor Mel Stanfill, succeeding outgoing co-editor Poe Johnson. Rachel Jurasevich is joining TWC as assistant editor, succeeding Woodhouse in the role. TWC also welcomes Atticus Yus and Lilly Clausen to its Outreach and Communications team.

New co-editor

Taylore Nicole Woodhouse is an Assistant Professor at the University of Georgia, where her research focuses on video game history, race, and the intersections between play and fandom. She has served as Assistant Editor at TWC since 2023. Her work has appeared in Game Studies, Transformative Works and Cultures, The Popular Cultural Studies Journal and In Media Res. Her current book project explores race and colorblindness in video game history.

"Working alongside Dr. Stanfill and Dr. Johnson has shown me how important it is to do the difficult work of broadening the field of fan studies" said Woodhouse. “I’m excited to build upon the foundation that they have created to continue pushing the boundaries of fan studies and troubling the assumptions that contribute to the marginalization of fans of color, non-Western fans, and others who do not fit into traditional categories and spaces of fandom.”

Dr. Woodhouse will work alongside Mel Stanfill, University of Central Florida, who said, "Taylore has brought an important vision and strengthened the breadth of the journal since the beginning of her time as Assistant Editor, and I’m excited to see what we can do as she moves into this new role."

Thanks to Poe Johnson

Poe Johnson is beginning the process of transitioning out of his role after five years as co-editor. His final issue will be in 2028. During his tenure, TWC has published 15 issues (Vols. 35–49), with special issues on topics including trans fandom, Chinese fandoms, centering Blackness in fan studies, sports, gaming, and disability. The journal has also worked to diversify fan studies, including by instituting the annual Fans of Color Research Prize. Dr. Johnson will remain on TWC’s Editorial Board and will become an active participant in helping to shape the future of fan studies as a peer reviewer.

"Being a member of TWC’s Editorial team has been one of the great honors of my academic career. I’m deeply proud of how we’ve helped expand the terrain of fan studies. I’m confident that our new Editorial team will not only continue this mission, but take the field to new places and new heights”said Dr. Johnson.

New Assistant Editor

Rachel Jurasevich is joining TWC as assistant editor, succeeding Taylore Nicole Woodhouse in the role. She will support the co-editors in managing submissions, coordinate peer review, and move articles through the process from initial review to final acceptance. Rachel is a fifth year Ph.D and graduate teaching associate at The Ohio State University, where her work focuses on intersections of popular culture, form in fanfiction, and rhetorical narrative theory. She brings her experiences in leading Cal Poly Pomona’s independent literary journal Pomona Valley Review, editing, participation on academic and organizational committees, review, and more to the role.

“I’m excited to join TWC as an assistant editor. Because TWC’s commitments to publishing diverse authors and open access research continues to shape my own research and pedagogy, I’m thrilled to volunteer my time to support the journal and future authors.”

Outreach and Communications

New Outreach and Communications editors Atticus Yus and Lilly Clausen are joining TWC's Outreach and Communications team, which shares news of the journal's issues, calls for papers, and prizes with readers, authors, and fan communities.

A.L. (Lilly) Clausen is a PhD Student at the University of Washington and brings experience in higher ed communications and fandom studies; Atticus Yus is a recent MPhil Graduate from the University of Cambridge and brings experience in fan studies and social media management.
