TWC Hiring Assistant Editor and Outreach/Comms Editor
TWC seeks applications for two positions: Assistant Editor and Outreach and Communications Editor.
Assistant EditorFirst, we are seeking one Assistant Editor as part of building a leadership pipeline for the journal and in the field more broadly.
DutiesUnder the supervision of the editors, the assistant editor will assist with editorial review of new submissions, managing the peer review process, and communicating with authors. Estimated time commitment is approximately 2-3 hours per week.
Qualifications- Applicants should be senior PhD students (ABD) or early career scholars (fewer than 5 years post-PhD).
- Applicants should have a record of peer-reviewed publications.
- Applicants need not be native speakers of English but must be competent in academic prose in English.
- Previous editorial experience is appreciated but not required.

Outreach and Communications Editor
Second, we are seeking two Outreach and Communications Editors to help connect our scholarship with the communities who need it.
In this role, you'll announce new issues and calls for papers across the fan studies landscape: Bluesky, Tumblr, Discord, Facebook groups, and academic listservs. You'll spotlight individual articles, resurface work from the journal's archive, contribute monthly updates to the OTW newsletter, and help improve the journal's visibility through promotion and indexing. If you enjoy finding the right audience for good scholarship, and you already know your way around the platforms where fan studies conversations happen, this might be the role for you.
We're looking for two people for this role (who can apply separately or as a team) who are organized, comfortable with public-facing writing, responsive communicators, and genuinely interested in fan studies and open-access publishing. Familiarity with Bluesky and Tumblr is a real asset; familiarity with the field's scholarly communities is even better.
The commitment averages around 1 hour per week, with heavier activity around the release of new issues and lighter activity in between. Outreach Editors are expected to check email at least once a week.
