TWC No. 47, Gaming Fandom, Released

2026-03-14

Transformative Works and Cultures has released No. 47, a special issue on Gaming Fandom edited by coeditors Hayley McCullough and Ashley P. Jones.

The opening editorial of this issue examines how critique is fundamental to the interactive experience of gaming in ways that it may not be to other forms of participatory culture and fan practices. As the special issue editors explain, “To play is already to interpret, to test limits, to negotiate rules; to create within and around games is to render that negotiation visible.” The essays in this issue therefore seek to demonstrate how gamers and their communities “operationalize creativity as critique in ways both subtle and spectacular.”

The next issues of TWC include special issues on ""Disability and Fandom” and “Music Fandom.”

We accept submissions for our general issues on a rolling basis. The general issue is always released on September 15.
