Author Biography

Michael S. Duffy, Towson University

Michael S. Duffy is co-editor with Bob Rehak and Dan North of ‘Special Effects: New Histories, Theories, Contexts’, an edited anthology set to be published by British Film Institute/Palgrave MacMillan in 2014. He has written and taught on special effects and technology, Hollywood and East Asian cinemas, and genre television. He is working on a project surrounding visual effects development and aesthetics in 1990s cinema and a monograph looking at the industry’s treatment of the posthumous lives of film and media stars. He teaches at Towson University in Maryland, and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Nottingham and an M.A. from New York University.
