I was surprised at how well the cyborg-body/text works as a metaphor for fan-texts. I was gratified to see that you give a nod to the real-world limitations and frictions of these implications at the end, and I'd have loved to see it explored more, but I understand that it wasn't the core purpose of the essay :)

Now I wonder about male cyborgs and replacement bodies (Thargor/Orlando from Tad William's Otherland comes to mind, as does cyborgy-fied Raiden of Metal Gear Solid 4...interestingly, though, he is coded as a very odd hybrid masculine-feminine cyborg, so...making the feminine-cyborg connection might actually help with decoding his (for some) problematic presentation. Heh.

Definitely food for thought!
