its not a null sum
by Jules L Wilkinson (2010-03-14)
As one of the editors of "Some of us really do weatch for the plot" I would totally reject your assertion that this collection (to which i also contributed) in any way would "deny a reading" of our collection or other fannish works. Our book was published in mid-2007, and the call for essays for the BenBella book was in January 2008. It was published nearly 18 months after our book. It was our book that helped convince Benbella that there was not only an audience for Suerpantural meta, but that there was an intelligent and articulate fandom who could help produce it. As a fan and an editor I was thrilled with the collaborative approach Benbella took with fans. Part of this was allowing pieces first published in our collection to reach a different audience in "In The Hunt".
I also take issue with your statement that this publication was about "legitmizing" fannish writing - that assumes it is somehow not legitimate to begin with. On my bookshelf both collections sit happily next to each other.
